Vicki DaSilva es una pintora de luz (Light Painter) y artista de graffiti estadounidense. Hace fotografías de exposición de un solo cuadro por la noche, que denomina «graffiti claro»

Bio

Dasilva nació en 1960 en Bethesda, Maryland (EE.UU.) y comenzó a hacer fotografías de exposición en 1980 durante sus estudios de bellas artes en la Universidad de Kutztown de Pennsylvania.

Vicki experimentó con las exposiciones temporales a través de ensayo y error, acuñando las primeras fotografías como graffiti de luz.

Después de recibir su BFA de la Universidad de Kutztown en 1983, Vicki se trasladó a la ciudad de Nueva York y se vio fuertemente influenciada tanto por el arte postmoderno como por la convergencia del arte callejero y el graffiti durante el nacimiento del hip-hop.

Este significativo período de tiempo condujo a una pasión y dedicación de por vida a la creación de graffitis ligeros y fotografías de pintura ligera.

Primeros pasos artísticos en el Light Painting

En 1981, Vicki hizo una pasantía y luego trabajó como asistente durante varios años con el artista de performance de renombre internacional Joan Jonas.

A través de Jonas, conoció a muchos artistas, incluyendo a Richard Serra, para quien trabajó como asistente personal durante los años 80.

El trabajo de Vicki evolucionó durante este tiempo, y a finales de los 80 y principios de los 90, comenzó a utilizar lámparas fluorescentes de 4 pies y eventualmente 8 pies para hacer light Painting y ha continuado utilizando estos medios junto con una variedad de lámparas fluorescentes de mano para sus trabajos de graffiti de luz.

En noviembre de 2018 Vicki se trasladó permanentemente a la Isla del Cabo Bretón, en Nueva Escocia (Canadá) en dónde ha continuado haciendo arte  light painting desde 1988.

Su obra

Entre las exposiciones y proyectos individuales y colectivos recientes figuran Lumen Lineation, SL Gallery NYC (2018); Allentown X 7: Photographic Explorations, Allentown Art Museum (2016-2017); Interference, International Light Art Project, Túnez (2016); y East River Flows, NYC Art in the Parks (2015).

En 2012 Vicki fue la ganadora en solitario del concurso internacional Art Takes Times Square, que dio lugar a que su obra apareciera en la portada de la sección de arte del New York Times, así como en 13 importantes vallas publicitarias digitales del programa artístico Midnight Moment de Times Square. En marzo de 2015, durante el Año Internacional de la Luz de la UNESCO, Vicki se asoció con la organización humanitaria Oxfam International en Trafalgar Square de Londres para ayudar a concienciar y a iluminar el cuarto aniversario del trágico conflicto de Siria.
